When it came to watching Flatliners, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had seen half of a trailer a few months ago so I was going into this with an open mind. With a well-known cast including Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Nina Dobrev and Kiefer Sutherland, my expectations grew just a little.
The main plot follows 5 medical students who essentially stop each others hearts for a short period of time so they can discover what happens in the after life and beyond. Once they discover the positive effects that flatlining has, including remembering all knowledge they have learned or feeling like they are on a high.
However, they soon discover it’s not all sunshine and rainbows when sins they have all committed come back to haunt them, and more. As a viewer, there was a very distinct moment in the movie from where it was a movie about knowing the afterlife, to fighting off their sins in a Final Destination style format.
